The Grand Plan

We got back from our week long trip to Seattle last Sunday morning. Since then it’s been 5 days of catching up on the laundry, catching up on work and trying to get back on the east coast time zone. Today was pure relaxing…with a little productivity.

When I came home I had over 650 pictures on my camera. Granted, not every one of them is layout worthy, but a lot of them are—not to mention I never imagined having so many stories to tell about our Washington adventures. I started thinking hard yesterday about how I wanted to scrap all these photos—keeping in mind that I’m nowhere near caught up on my everyday family albums and I made a grand, command decision. I will be scrapping two albums. One I’ll have printed into a book that will probably be of more interest to friends & family than the other. That one is going to be like a highlight reel of our vacation—the great photos and a sweet and simple overview of the trip and events. The other, however, I’m doing just for me.

I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a digital art journal for a while, but I haven’t been a good diary-keeper since I was a teenager, and as you can tell (on a personal basis, anyhow) that I’m not a overly regular blogger either. Art journals are often very thought- and feeling-focused interpretations into art on a page. I know myself—I’m sure I’d start out with great gusto but then end up with a half-finished book that spanned years (maybe even decades), if it ever even reached completion. But as I was sitting there yesterday, recalling some of the small, yet memorable details of our trip, it hit me that an art journal could be the perfect medium for all these stories. I’ve also been coming to the realization that I don’t remember details of events as much as I would like and I’m suddenly feeling a burning need to get all of these adventures down into words before my memory eats them, like some gray-matter garbage disposal—irretrievably gone forever. So I’ve decided that the second book is going to be a retelling of our trip in a more personal, intimate fashion. Journaling-heavy pages that I will be able to come back to 10 years from now to relive the trip all over again. I imagine no one but a very patient person is going to want to read all of the bits and pieces that will be going into this book—which is why I’m considering the art journal to be just for me.

I realized today that I couldn’t possibly tackle this project without at least a sketchy outline of what I wanted to include. In a way, I’m worried that I’ll forget to tell a great story and it will be lost in my brain abyss forever. So I made a page list today. What did I come up with? 36 stories to tell, each one having their own page. In some cases, 3-4 pages will encompass the events of a single day. Our trip was really eventful (but amazingly not exhausting).

I finished the first page earlier today and will be posting it soon. I’m also hoping that doing this will help me not feel so sad that I had to leave several people that I love dearly behind on the west coast and come home. As we were flying home late, late at night I was feeling the familiar ache of missing them setting in already. And maybe that story will become page 37 in my book…

Weekly Roundup 6/28 – 7/4

The kittens made the big move to “the rest of the house” this week. They’re out and bouncing around the whole area, finally being allowed beyond the family room. Jasmine is still not a fan of the kittens and there has been some posturing, but for the most part she’s tolerating them. At this point, I don’t know if she’ll ever become friendly with them, but I think she’s realizing that they are here to stay and this wasn’t just some sort of ridiculous practical joke on our part. Ajax is interested in the kittens. The kittens don’t like him. hehe Naturally, any face time with them has been highly supervised. I don’t think he’d ever try to hurt them, but they run and he has a pretty strong chase instinct and one paw could take a kitten out easily. For the record, Jasmine isn’t friendly with him either—she often takes a high position on a counter while he sits there, tail wagging, trying to make friends and she beats the hell out of his face with her paws.

Otherwise, last week was pretty low key. I did a little shopping and got some good deals on clothes for both Scott and I. I was also in the market for a cute camera bag for some upcoming trips. I combed Etsy and a few other places and found some really cute ones, but the big problem with them was that they are made to order and I wouldn’t have been able to get one in time. So, I went with another option. My current camera bag is actually a Cannon backpack, which is fantastic for hauling around a lot of equipment, but not so great for carrying around while sight-seeing on vacation. I don’t need to tote around every piece of camera equipment I own, just my camera and an extra lens or two. I was looking for something that didn’t scream “I’m a camera bag” and that was big enough for me to throw in my essential purse contents as well. What I ended up going with is a really cute and roomy handbag with a middle zipper pocket that I can put the removable padding from my Cannon backpack in and tuck my camera and an extra lens in. I think it’s going to work out real nicely.

I finally finished reading Dead Until Dark. I was underwhelmed to say the least, being that many of my friends really enjoy the Sookie Stackhouse books and am hoping that as I get further into the series, the books get better (at least for my reading tastes). At this point I’m trying to decide if I should switch gears and move to another book on my list and come back to book 2, or if I’d be better off just plowing through all of them back-to-back. I’m kind of afraid that I’ll pick up something else and it will be fabulous and inadvertently ruin my next “Sookie experience” even more. I’m still pondering my options. ;)

For the 4th of July we stuck close to home being that we have a little family excursion to the Mall of America coming up. We did have the opportunity to go north to the family property, but it was hot and certain people I know would have been miserable without AC. ;)

Well, that rounds out my week. Like I said, pretty low key. Next week I should be back with some pictures from our MoA trip. :)

Look Who’s Joined the CT!

Weekly Round Up 6/21 – 6/27

Wow, last week flew by fast! Madison was barely home and she was off again. Aunt Lisa came and picked her up on Wednesday while she was in town and Scott, Nicholas and I picked her up from Lisa’s last night.

I had the laborious task of combing through CT applications and making a decision of who to bring on my team. That’s certainly not easy when you only have so many spots and get so many great apps! I finally narrowed it down, but it was a tough task. The ladies are getting comfy on the team now and I’m enjoying seeing their first work for the team and getting to know them better. :)

Our elliptical came on Saturday. That was a huge box and I’m thankful that the delivery guys carried it down to the family room for us. I wouldn’t have wanted to be a part of hauling it down the hallway and figuring out how to get that box safely down that narrow turn. Scott put it together with a little help from me. My help consisted mainly of holding this or that or handing him this tool or that tool. I’ll admit that by the time it rolled around to him screwing on all of the plastic covering pieces, I lost interest and plopped down to play a game on the xbox.

We enjoyed a quiet weekend and downloaded some fun games for the xbox Saturday night. There are many classic “family” games available for download in the market place and we grabbed Yahtzee!, Battleship and Jenga. Jenga was surprisingly fun and tense! The game developers did a good job of re-creating the feeling of a classic game of Jenga by making it so you have to use one of the controller thumb sticks to actually pull the piece from the tower. Depending on your choice and the state of the tower when it’s your turn, the whole tower may start to sway and wobble while you’re freeing your piece. Scott and I laughed a whole lot through several rounds and I was mighty impressed that a download that equals out to be a couple of buck’s worth of points provided so much entertainment.

This week brings some work for me, plus some planning activities. We’re hoping to get out of the house and visit a few places this summer, a couple which involve the whole family and one hopeful trip that may just be for Scott and I. :)

Quick Round Up

I’m doing a quick round up of the last two weeks. Maybe I should try to do these weekly. Yeah, we’ll see how that goes. :p

I finally got my new store all set up and opened on the 10th. I’m really happy to be there, and quite frankly, relieved to be selling again with someone else taking the brunt of the administrative work (therefore Nicole at TDC has quickly moved right to the top of my favorite people list. lol).

Scott and I ordered the sectional for downstairs in the family room. I’m really looking forward to being able to watch a movie without my butt falling asleep. Yep, the futon that is down there is really that uncomfortable. It’s supposed to be about 4 weeks until that comes in. I believe it’s going to be the longest month of my life. At this point, every time I’m down there I’m dreaming of comfortable seating.

Nicholas finished up school on the 10th. We’re now in that awful transition period that results from a major change in his routine. I’m pretty sure he’ll get adjusted to the summer routine right about the time his summer program starts and we can start the readjustment cycle all over again. :p

Madison got out of school a day early so that she and Nicholas could spend a few days with my parents. What a great way to start summer vacation—and not just for the kiddos either! Poor Madison got a wicked sunburn on her back from spending 2 days at the lake. It’s still red, but getting better. There is much less whining and “ouch”ing when I rub lotion on her back now. Nicholas browned up like a little bean. Though his winter complexion is very pale, he’s been blessed with Scott’s tanning genes which means no sunburns and great color when exposed to even the smallest amounts of sunlight. I’m thoroughly jealous.

After 14 years of saying that I wanted a tattoo on my foot, I finally got it done.

This was my fifth time under the tattoo needle, but took me the longest to work up the courage for because I have bony, veiny feet and I was just flat out scared that it was going to hurt like a SOB. There were a couple of spots that were pretty sensitive, but all-in-all it was not nearly as bad as I had expected—especially after hearing that hands and feet are two of the highest ranking locations with regard to pain factor. I would do it again in a heartbeat—if that’s any indication of how “not bad” it really was. The 2 days post-tattoo were a bit unexpected. I’ve never had my skin swell afterward, but boy did it this time. I had one rather sausage-looking foot. It was also pretty sore—kind of like someone had stomped on the middle of my foot. I’m still glad I did it. For once in my life, I enjoy looking at my feet now. ;)

Last weekend Scott said something to me that I never, ever thought he’d say: let’s get kittens. *thud* I’ve been dying to add a kitten to the family for a couple of years now, but I could never convince Scott to go for it. Then he went into a place that sells rescued animals and saw the kittens. That was all it took. (If I’d have known this, I’d have dragged him into that place or the humane society sooner!) So we came home with these two, tiny, adorable faces:

This is Stash:

This little guy barely sits still long enough to take a picture of him! He’s proving to be the sociable lover. When he’s not dashing around, playing like a little mad man, he’s getting pets and cuddles. He’s also very vocal. Lots of little meows out of this little guy.

This is Leanan:

She’s more reserved than Stash. He thinks everyone is instantly his friend. She has to make sure you’re not some sort of maniac kitty-napper before she’ll get within petting range. Once she warms up to you she’s super sweet. She also needs to know where Stash is at all times. I think he gives her courage. :)

Jasmine, our older cat, is not yet too thrilled with the new additions to the household. I don’t think she thinks they’re quite as cute as we do. ;)

And, finally, we ordered an elliptical today. It should come some time between next Friday and Monday. I’m excited to get it and start a regular workout routine again.

Creative & Hybrid Team Call!

I am looking for fun-loving, self-motivated digital & hybrid artists to fill a handful of positions on my creative team. Requirements are relaxed with no set layout or hybrid projects minimums, with a focus on quality and creativity over quantity. Team members are, however, asked to create layouts within a 48 hour period if CT downloads are taken. No additional promotion activities are required, but tweets, Facebook posts and blog entries are highly encouraged and appreciated.

If you are interested in a position on the team, please send an email to CT{at}pixelgypsydesigns{dot}com with your name, a link to your most complete gallery and a little bit about why you would like to be a part of the team, and any other teams you are currently serving on no later than June 22nd.

Special consideration may be given to hybrid artists for a set number of positions on the team. Acceptance notifications will be sent between June 23rd-24th. “Rejection” notices will not be sent, however, your information will be kept on file in the event positions open up in the future.

Welcome to the new, thinner me!

Ok, so I really haven’t gotten any thinner. It’s quite the opposite, actually—but we’re not having that conversation right now. I’m not ready to discuss the realities of my growing backside. However, my blog load *has* gotten smaller, which is a great thing! You are now at my new consolidated pad. For those who used to follow my ramblings about life, scrapping, photography and whatever else was on my mind on my personal blog—you will find that here.

For those of you who used to visit my business blog shoppe for my latest products, this will be the place to be *linked* to my latest products. Yep, I went and got myself a new place to sell…and though I can’t tell you where just yet, let’s just say I’m very excited to be there!

If you’re here you probably already know me. Or, maybe you don’t. If you don’t…Hi, I’m Sherrie. Nice to meet you. :) Introductions just really aren’t my thing. They give me that “get up in front of a room full of people to make a speech and realize you’re in your underwear” feeling. Not good at all. So…I’m going to skip all the blah, blah, blah about the nuts and bolts of my life. It’s not really that different from anyone else’s therefore doesn’t warrant long description. Or—maybe it is, but giving too many details of my life would endanger the secrecy of my super-hero alter ego. You never know…

For several years I’ve been maintaining two blogs—one for my personal stuff and another for my work-related stuff. I’ve decided to consolidate everything into this single spot for my own sanity…as well as in the hopes of becoming better about blogging on a personal level. My business blog always got lots of love and attention. My personal one…sometimes, not so much.

A little bit about the things you might see on this blog:

I design digital scrapbooking products, so there will definitely be lots of that. I scrapbook…you guessed it…digitally, so you will be seeing the layouts I create. I’m also on the creative team for two fantastic designer friends, so I’ll be talking about some of their super-sweet products as well as showing off the layouts I make with their stuff. I love to read and may, on and off, rave (or rant) about what’s currently getting the pages of my Kindle turning. I have a Cannon Rebel that I want to learn to use more skillfully, so there is a good chance there will be photography peppered through my blog (this also goes hand-in-hand with that whole scrapbooking thing). My life is touched by Autism—both my son and daughter have been diagnosed with varying degrees of this developmental disorder (our daughter has ADD as well), so there will definitely be posts that address that. I’m in a redecorating phase right now, so I’m sure I’ll babble about my progress throughout my home. Halloween is better than Christmas in my book and we throw a large party each year that takes months to plan—you can be SURE I’ll be discussing that. Last, but not least, I have a lot of random thoughts and because I can’t escape them, you won’t be able to either.

Now…if you’re thinking, why in the world would I come to read all about *that* stuff, I’d just like to point out that in the midst of all that kind of sharing, you just might figure out my super-hero alter ego identity. What could be more exciting that that, right?
